Objective: By using this 12-week lesson plan, all dance sessions should progress the same and in the correct amount of time before the recital.
Week 1
5:15-5:20 p.m.: Introductions
- Coach introduces herself to students. She also learns each of their names.
5:20-5:30 p.m.: Warm up (We always start in our tap shoes and play ‘Let It Go’)
- Stomp in place for 30 seconds
- Big arm circles
- Look up, look down, look to your parents, look to the mirror, roll head
- Sit on bottom in a straddle and reach to right foot and hold
- Switch to left foot and hold
- Reach to middle and hold
- Legs in a pike, reach and hold
- Shake toes left and right
- Circle feet
- Sit in butterfly, learn forward nose to toes, and hold
5:30-5:38 p.m.: TapÂ
- Toe taps (In place, without moving feet)
- Heel taps (In place, without moving feet)
- Toe taps to the front
- Heel taps to the front
- Brush (Brushing the sole of the working foot forward while weight is held in the other foot)
5:38-5:40 p.m.: Listen to Tap Recital Music
5:40-5:45 p.m.: Change to ballet shoes, get a drink, back in spots, etc.
5:45-6:57 p.m.: Ballet
- Teach/review the 5 positions
- Demi plie
- Grand plie
- Relevé
5:57-6:00 p.m.: Listen to Ballet Recital Music
Weekly Reminders/Announcements: Introduce yourself to parents. Let them know you’re excited to be teaching their children. Ensure all parents know the date for the recital. Review sizes ordered for costumes.
