What We Did This Week: Week 2
*Cartwheels, Beginner/baby handstands, Lunges*
We had fun with scooters also!
Cartwheels: The cartwheel is a basic and common tumbling skill that will strengthen your upper body and help you work your way up to more advanced moves. There are two basic types: the side-to-side and the front-to-back cartwheel. To do the side-to-side cartwheel, you’ll start and end in the same direction. While this type of cartwheel is easier for beginners, the front-to-back cartwheel, where you’ll start facing forward and end facing backward, is the traditional cartwheel you will encounter in tumbling. Handstands: The first progression towards handstands. The biggest obstacle for beginners is the fear of falling over. The most common way of doing a beginner handstand is to raise your arms above your head. While making sure your arms are locked, lunge one leg forward as far as is comfortable. Push onto your hands with your leading leg and back foot. So athletes worked “baby” handstands, meaning only lunging onto a mat and kicking up to a comfortable level.
