Results Statement: Use this system to implement Journaling as a part of your All Star program.

Each athlete on an All Star team is responsible for bringing a coil ring notebook.  

Lesson #1:

Decorate the front of the journals. Encourage athletes to put pictures of themselves, pictures of goals for themselves, and to get creative.  This of this as a vision board.  

Explain the purpose and rules of the journals.

The purpose of the journals are to

  • Track progress throughout the season.
  • Have a place to write thoughts
  • Keep place of goals for the season
  • Gratitude

Lesson #2: 

  • Determine top 5 goals and write them down
    • Talk about the importance of setting SMART goals and how to do that.  
  • Write 3 things that you are grateful for. 

Lessons thereafter: 

  • Write your top 5 goals.
  • Write 3 things you’re grateful for.
  • Spend 5 minutes writing (or drawing) about the following topic.

  2. When you don’t feel like you have any more to give, what keeps you going?
  3. What makes you happy?
  4. Why is constant improvement so important?
  5. What does grit mean?
  6. Describe the best practice you’ve ever had.
  7. What is your favorite part of cheer and why?
  8. When a teammate is feeling down, what is your go-to to cheer them up?
  9. Why is it important to acknowledge the feelings of others?
  10. What words best describe you?
  11. What life skills do you think cheerleading teaches?
  12. What is something you admire in your coaches or mentors?
  13. What is one thing you’d like to get better at?
  14. When you’re having a tough day at practice, what is one thing that can always make you smile?
  15. What makes a good day?
  16. How do you feel when someone shows you gratitude?
  17. Describe a time you set a goal and achieved it?
  18. What is a big challenge you’ve faced in life?
  19. What is your greatest quality?
  20. How will you make the world a better place one day?
  21. What is the best feeling in the world?
  22. When you do something for others, how do you feel?
  23. What is your favorite memory at (gym name)?
  24. What does effort look like?  On a scale of 1 – 5 rate your effort today.
