MAY 

Week #1

  • Dead Ant Tag Once an athlete is tagged they must lay down on their backs. Kick their arms and legs. Up to four other athletes can help carry the athlete lying on the ground to an ant hospital (a mat) Once the athlete is carried up on the mat they can continue running again. Athletes cannot be tagged if they are helping carry another athlete to the mat. (Depending on size of class, may need more than 1 “ant hospital”)

Week #2

 

  • Parachute Color Game-  Have athletes complete different actions around the parachute, when you shout a color, have athletes run and stand on the color, once there have them complete a static activity/balance

 

Week #3

  • Running through the Jungle- Explain to the children that they are running through the ‘jungle’ and run into many animals that they need to get away from. Give appropriate commands, and the children carry out a suitable action:
    • Jump over logs
    • Duck under branches
    • High knees through quicksand
    • Run from the tiger
    • Tip toe past the snake
    • Talk to the monkeys (ooh, ooh, aah, aah)

Swing through the jungle like Tarzan – children reach up for the jungle vines and calling ‘arrhhh, arh, arh’ beating their chests etc.

Week #4

 

  • Balloon Fun!-  Provide each child with a balloon, instruct them to do the following activities:

 

  • Balance it on one finger/ on foot
  • Keep it in the air as long as they can only using one finger, their head, knee, foot, etc

Pass it back and forth to one another 

Week #5

Freeze Game-  Play some music and have the athletes complete different locomotions around (see actions list), once music is stopped, have all athletes stop in “Freeze” position
