Results Statement: By sending an email with a few tasks to your new hires, they are prepared for their first day and able to meet all expectations.
Welcome to Your Gym!
We’re so excited you’ll be joining our team. You’ll find that Your Gym is a fun work environment that will challenge you and truly bring out your best qualities. We’re very careful in selecting new team members to work with the children in this gym, and we believe you’ll one day be someone’s favorite coach – and the person who made the difference in their lives.
You’ve got a few very big tasks ahead of you, and a lot of training. While at times, it may seem like a lot to remember, keep in mind that the safety and well-being of our athletes and their families is our top priority. We want to see athletes, parents and coaches fall in love with you by the end of your training – so your #1 task throughout your training is to get to know them and interact with positive and professional body language and a positive mental attitude. We’ve asked you to be part of our team, because we believe in you!
Your training will consist of one On-Boarding shift where you’ll receive a tour of the gym, learn how to clock in and out, watch a few training videos, read our staff handbook and learn about the culture of our gym. During this time, you’re observing how our front desk works from client interaction to answering phones and delegating tasks.
Following the on-boarding shift, you’ll complete four shifts of shadowing, where you’ll watch a variety of classes. At the end of these shadowing shifts, you should understand the flow of classes, the general curriculum, how to warm up classes, and how to effectively communicate with athletes and their parents. These shifts will be followed by a short pre-test that shows us your knowledge of what you have observed. You will then complete four hands-on training shifts where you will interact with the athletes with a trainer alongside you. You’ll learn where to appropriately place your body for spotting techniques and how to teach the skills as well as what drills are most effective for athletes to work on. In addition, you’ll learn “homework” to give to athletes who would like to practice safely at home. You’ll then take a written test. This is an in-depth test of your total knowledge of what you’ll be teaching. It is instrumental to demonstrate your knowledge on these topics prior to leading your own class. The final step in our training process is a hands on test. You’ll work one on on with a lead coach to demonstrate your hands-on spotting skills and knowledge. They will provide some feedback, but at this point, you’ll be expected to do the spotting with little to no assistance. While this concludes your training prior to becoming a class coach, you’ll still be considered “in-training” for 90 days. During this time, we’ll continue to work on training you for birthday parties, private lessons, open gym and other tasks our team members complete as a staff member.
If at any time in the training process you run in to challenges, please reach out to me so I can help! We look forward to having you as part of the Twister Sports family. Prior to your first day of training, please complete the following checklist so we can provide you with the best possible training.
