This lesson plan focuses on backbend variations, handstands and shaping drills. This lesson plan was built for levels 3+.

Results Statement: By completing this lesson plan, you will effectively accomplish a 30-minute virtual session. All families should be notified in advance what materials they may need (a soft surface, a towel, etc.)

Begin the class by asking the children: “What is your favorite thing to do outside?”

Make sure you know the names of each child. People can be renamed in Zoom if that helps you to remember.

Teach them how to do video and mute/unmute.

Warm Up:

50 jumping jacks

High knees

Bottom kickers

Inch Worms

Side lunges right

Side lunges left

Squat and press

Swim forward

Swim backward

Cherry pickers

Blinkers

Neck

Ankles

 

Bridges:

Bridge rocks x 10

Bridge claps

Bridge tick tock kicks

 

Backbends:

Standing backbends

Feet together standing backbends

Backbend kickovers

Handstand:

Handstand hops

Straddle ups

Handstand half pirouette

Shaping Drills:

Forearm plank 30 sec

High plank 30 sec

Right side plank 30 sec

Left side plank 30 sec

Lunge 30 sec

Lever 30 sec

30 Needle kicks (Reflects leg strength)

Candlestick to tuck jump

Candlestick bent knees (tuck drill)

Hollow body holds x 3 (15 sec each)

Arch to hollow body snaps x 10

Arch hollow body log rolls x 5

 

Conditioning: 

Diamond jumps x 24

Plyo knee lunges (30 sec each side)

Side plyo knee jumps (30 sec each side)

Sumo squat jumps (30 sec)

Flamingos x 10 each side

Flexibility:

Straddle each side & middle

Hip flexors (runners’ stretch)
